The Northern Pines Harmony Brigade chapter is sponsoring a ‘Platoon’ style event prior to the LO’L convention. This event will give singers a taste of the fun, Harmony Brigade experience and offer participants the chance to sing 4 songs with other quartet enthusiasts. After learning these 4 songs you’ll have a chance to continue singing them throughout the LO’L convention, be prepared to sing in the LO’L ‘All Chapter Chorus’ and perform two of the songs on stage. Then gather with your new-found friends at the NPHB Hospitality Suite (complete with beverages and snacks) on Saturday evening and sing into the ‘wee’ hours of the night.

What to expect
Thursday, October 14
3:00 – 5:00 PM Registration. Once you arrive, you’ll see a sign directing you to the registration room. You’ll receive your Platoon name badge with designated voice part and then your singing experience begins. Find 3 other voices and start singing all of the songs to help you prepare for the evening random draw contest.
5:00 – 6:30 PM Group Dinner. You’ll enjoy a great dinner with your fellow Platoon singers. Undoubtedly – singing will break out at your table!
6:30 – 7:30 PM General Meeting. At the meeting more fun begins with some group singing of the 4 songs. Next, your name will be randomly assigned to 3 other singers. Your quartet will select a quartet name, register the name with our contest administrator and be assigned one of the 4 songs to sing for the contest.
7:30 – 8:30 PM Quartet rehearsal. This is when you have a chance to rehearse and work out as many of the ‘kinks’ as possible and discuss your stage presence plan. Depending on the balance of voice parts, you may have the opportunity to sing in more than 1 quartet!
8:30 – 9:30 PM Quartet Contest. The MC will now announce the order of appearance with further instructions. Your quartet will sing on the actual convention contest platform complete with the full quartet audio system. A panel of distinguished judges will convene and oversee your performance and come up with a score. Your quartet score will never be revealed, and there isn’t any performance evaluation. This is just for FUN! Expect to hear some well-deserved harassment between the judges and MC.
9:30 The NPHB Challenge. We will give the veteran NPHB members a chance to compete with songs that were scheduled for the 2021 Rally in May. The time format will be abbreviated & escalated to include a more challenging experience. Afterwards, stick around for as much singing as your heart desires.
Even if you are local to the Twin Cities area, we highly recommend getting a hotel room for Thursday night in order to fully enjoy this event. The Hilton is offering the same LO’L Convention rate of $85/night. NPHB will not be managing your hotel reservation, so please see the LO’L Registration information for the Hotel link and make your personal plans.
The cost for the ‘Platoon’ event is $50. This will include your music (complete with excellent voice predominant learning tracks) and the group dinner. FYI: Your Platoon registration badge will not gain you entry to the LO’L convention activities.
